Lecture
On The
Restoration of the State
Capitol

Celebrate Pennsylvania’s History this July 4th Weekend!
On Sunday July 6 at 3 pm, Capitol Preservation Committee
Historian Jason Wilson will present a lecture and presentation
highlighting the campaign of ongoing restoration at the
Pennsylvania State Capitol at Historic Peace Church.
The Pennsylvania State Capitol Building is often referred to
as a “palace of art” and many visitors believe it is the most
beautiful Capitol in the United States. For the last
twenty-five years the state capitol has undergone a massive
campaign of restoration aimed at returning it to its original
1906 grandeur. In 1982, the Pennsylvania Capitol Preservation
Committee was formed to preserve the building’s architecture,
art and history for future generations. Committee projects have
included restoring all the artwork in the building, preserving
Pennsylvania’s Civil War battle flags, removing and restoring
the statue Commonwealth on top of the Capitol’s dome and well
over one hundred other individual projects aimed to ensure that
the state capitol building will always remain a “palace of
art.”
CEMETERY TOUR
Immediately following the restoration presentation, a tour
of the St. John’s Cemetery will be conducted by Bill Goetz,
Peace Church Historian.
