to attend this year’s Scottish Heritage Day, Sunday
September 16 from 2
p.m. to
4
p.m. at
Historic
Peace
Church
.
This event is
family friendly and free to the public. Bring blankets and
lawn chairs as some of the entertainment is on the
lawn.
The
program will consist of The Loud McLeod Trio
performing at 2
p.m. ,
followed by the Scottish Heritage Dancers. At
2:40
p.m. there
will be a brief intermission with cool drinks and
shortbreads and cakes behind the church. At
3
p.m. the
celebration moves inside the church with three lectures
about Scots-Irish immigrants , interspersed with country
music from the Springtime Skyscrapers Quartet. The quartet
will present music and songs traditional to the historic
period under discussion. The discussions will cover
Scots migration to Northern
Ireland and
Scots-Irish immigration to America
Where
and how the Scots-Irish settled in America
and
how they fought in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Their
culture of democracy will also be addressed. A discussion on
how the Scots-Irish culture has influenced the evolution of
democracy and national character in America
will
also be included. The Springtime Skyscrapers will present a
medley finale. The program concludes at
4 p.m.
Peace
Church
is a 208
year old limestone sanctuary located on the corner of
St.
John’s Church
and
Trindle Roads near Camp Hill. It is maintained as a museum
by the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission and is
open on Sunday Afternoons from June through September for
free tours and cultural events. Parking is available in the
office lot directly across St. John’s Church
Road; handicapped parking
is available behind the Resource
Center
(formerly
