Peace
Church
will
present a lecture on Pa Civil War Battle Flags on
Sunday,
September 2,
2007 at
3
p.m. The presentation is free to
the public. No reservations are required; however, seating is
limited to 225 people.
Local historian Jason L. Wilson will present a lecture at the
historic Peace
Church
in Camp
Hill, on Sunday
September
2, 2007,
from 3:00
to
4:00
pm. The
lecture will focus on the conservation of Pennsylvania
’s
historic collection of 370 Civil War battle flags and highlight the
importance of flags in nineteenth century warfare.
Wilson has
been employed by the Pennsylvania Capitol Preservation Committee as
research historian since the year 2000. Over the past six years, he
has been instrumental in researching and writing numerous
Committee publications, most notably the 2002 book, A Sacred Challenge: Violet Oakley and
the Pennsylvania State Capitol Murals and the 2006 publication,
Literature in Stone: The
Hundred Year History of Pennsylvania’s State Capitol.
Wilson
has
also contributed and assisted with work on House, Senate, and
General Services’ publications, in addition to conducting tours and
continuing research on Pennsylvania
’s
historic collection of battle flags. He is a 2000 graduate
of Susquehanna
University
in
Selinsgrove, with a B.A. in History and has undertaken master’s
work at the Pennsylvania
State
University
at
Harrisburg
.
Peace
Church
is a 208
year old limestone sanctuary located on the corner of
St.
John’s Church
and
Trindle Roads near Camp Hill. It is maintained as a museum by
the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission and is open
on Sunday Afternoons from June through September for free
tours and cultural events. Parking is available in the office
lot directly across St. John’s Church
Road; handicapped
parking is available behind the Resource
Center
(formerly the Gift
